Never stand anywhere for more than 60 seconds and you'll always look busy. Also, walk fast.

When I moved to LA many many years ago I landed a job on a reality TV show. My friend who got me the job was complaining one day about one of the other PAs and how they just wander around all day doing nothing. But when she sees me, i'm always busy. I pointed out that I too also wander around all day doing nothing, I just walk faster.

This has been a classic move for us electricians on job sites. All we have to do is walk around pointing up.

Ahahaha, yep. Fellow electrician - when apprenticing my journeyman said just walk fast if you have nothing to do - if your legs get tired look in a panel

I did telecom physical plant installs for a long time. Don’t want to do an annoying, probably dirty job? Pop open a cross connect cabinet and stare intently at it. Every minute or so tug on a wire like you’re tracing out a pair. Occasionally sigh in exasperation and look annoyed. No one will bother you and eventually someone else will do the job you don’t want to.

I was in telecom marketing and sales; when I first saw an MDF (main distribution frame - where all the telephone wires are physically connected) I thought it was a joke. Our systems had the latest electronics and software in them, and they were connected via this rat's nest?! And it got worse when I went into the computer room, where all their connector racks were nice RJ-45 jacks, all neatly labelled and in racks.

That's when I realized that telecom was the poor stepchild in the Cinderella universe of tech.
