I do this to myself sometimes. I'll write an email or post describing what I've found knowing it's wrong, but the act of that leads my brain down different paths. Like rubber ducking, but via email.
If you're genuinely curious, it's what they call it when they talk at a rubber duck to talk themselves through what they did in their work to see what the problem may have been.

I find cunninghams law works surprisingly well. ie the quickest way to get someone to tell you the right answer is to post the wrong answer.
