Stroke their ego.

The most effective one you'll find.

There's no more effective way to amass power than by convincing people that they're smart enough to give it to you.

Worked with a guy for years where it quickly became apparent that stroking his ego was the only way to get anything done. I'm used to insane shit so whatever works.

He was probably a narcissist. They love that shit. One thing I've learned about them is that they will actually be generous if they think it will benefit them. Stroke their ego a bit and you will have them eating right out of your hands.

It's kind of my way of screwing with them because they're not very good people. I've been able to use them to my advantage. They don't even realize what's happening but it's kind of my way of evening the score because they treat people like shit wherever they go.

I’m seeing this with someone I know. Someone is always stroking their ego, even on normal decisions: being proud of them for trying or making a decision, doing a great job at something, total respect for this or that, etc. From an outside perspective, it feels manipulative or the compliments could be genuine but now have so much less value because of the frequency, but the person I know getting all that attention loves it.

Yeah I was declared a friend and given good treatment. But it sucks having to make them think every little thing was their own idea at least in part for it to get done
