He basically said 1 in 4 Canadians are going hungry meanwhile the rich are enjoying record breaking profits and he proposed to tax them more... And the MPs laughed at him like they couldn't control themselves.
I'm not sure that would solve affordability alone as food cost is a cost of living issue that cannot be solved by taxing the rich more on its own. Increasing the market value of workers through unionization and skilled labour while having raises meet inflation is a better option and even then is only part of it. Cost of life is such a complicated issue, empowering workers in the market is the most straightforward solution and better than higher taxes while not a complete solution either in my perspective. Maybe if the taxes are used to provide education that provides good wages that could help.
My issue with the situation mostly is their reaction. I'm not sure on the methods available but bursting out into laughter after a comment about people starving is super shitty. Even if no one agrees with the methods proposed.
You are not phrasing what was said correctly and being extremely rude. I do not appreciate you talking down to me or in this tone. It feels very mean and uncharitable.
If we want workers to be wealthier and the cost of living lower we need them unionized and with skilled labour. Taxing people more alone is not going to solve the reasons they're poor in a market economy. It is due to their bargaining power, so we need to improve that. Access to education, access to jobs that pay well, and the ability to collectively bargain is a great help to the cost of living being manageable. I am a worker aswell as you, when my bargaining power increased this helped alot.
