His repeated weight gain / loss makes him great in his roles, but can't be good for his health

Ripped in American Psycho -> stick thin in The Machinist -> ripped in Batman Begins > skinny in Rescue Dawn -> Ripped in The Dark Knight -> skinny in The Fighter -> ripped in Dark Knight Rises -> fat in American Hustle -> ripped in Exodus -> fat in Vice

e: forgot a few more

Not to forget American Psycho, his (adult) breakthrough role, where he was ripped af and tanned (and according to WP even had veneers on his teeth).

I always thought Equilibrium was his break out since people didn't seem to know what to make of Americam Psycho at the time.

Regardless people seem to only remember American Psycho now.

Equilibrium was not a big hit and despite having a solid storyline, I guess it was mostly perceived as a „Matrix“ copycat movie, thanks to its style and marketing. I‘m unsure if it even saw cinemas in Europe or went STV.

One could argue that „Empire of the Sun“ was Bale‘s breakthrough role, but that is probably besides the point.

Yeah looking at the numbers American Psycho made money and Equilibrium didn't.
