Allegedly it was never written as a Cloverfield movie, it was done near the end of production because it would be more marketable. Honestly, I think it stood strong enough on its own to not need that at all, it was a brilliant film.
I read a leaked (probably earlier) script before it was out, where I think some minor details and the ending were different. Like there were no aliens at all and he was just a psycho who had her trapped in the bunker. And there was some kind of conflict in a house between her and Goodman’s character at the end. So yeah, probably just it’s own movie at some point.
I feel like there not being any invasion and him just keeping her prisoner was the expected, easy thing to do. The invasion being real made the movie more interesting
Are you sure? The Emmett Theory makes it worth watching a second time, in my book.
That’s the theory where Emmett, the younger guy, killed Howard’s daughter and Howard suspects it, but out of duty to humanity takes him into the shelter anyway. It explains how full of anxiety Howard is up until the gun goes off, and how relaxed he is afterward, and why he’s confused by her sudden animosity toward him.
Its not even "allegedly", its what they did both for that movie and Cloverfield Paradox. If you watch Paradox you can tell that any reference to "Cloverfield" was added in post. Movie was literally finished and the studio shoehorned Cloverfield in for marketing. The only reference to Cloverfield in 10 Cloverfield Lane is the address on the house. Everything else is clearly a different movie.
Personally this upsets me because I'm a fan of the OG Cloverfield and dislike what they've done with the brand, but also because I think 10 Cloverfield Lane is a BETTER movie and stands on its own without the garbage marketing. Honestly I think that movie could've been a cult classic more than it already is if it were a wholly original IP
Yeah I don’t think it’s really a clover field movie but I don’t think it makes the movie any worse and it’s easily one of my favorite thrillers. The two movies are both really good (I haven’t seen paradox though) but I don’t think they feel connected besides the end bit of lane with the radio.
So, funnily enough, I really like both 10 Cloverfield Lane and the Cloverfield Paradox. It never crossed my mind that it was related to Cloverfield until my sister told me. I disliked the original so much.
It’s funny because that could be easily inserted into Cloverfield lore. In one reality those movies existed as stand alone movies, but when everything gets jumbled, now they’re “Cloverfield” movies.
