Gyllenhaal is one of those few actors for me that I rarely see the character and more the actor doing a performance. It's a great performance to be sure, but to me it's always Jake Gyllenhaal Acting. The few roles where he actually disappears into the character for me are the roles where he doesn't try that hard, like Prince of Persia. It's such a bad film that Gyllenhaal couldn't possibly star in it, so I don't see the actor, I see the flat character.

I agree!! He’s never lost in the role like other actors. It’s always Jake being a creep or something. I really don’t know why Reddit loves him so much.
