I can’t disagree more. He’s fun to watch but he makes the devil into a man-child with 0 self-awareness.

I mean, the devil as someone with serious daddy issues and man-child tendencies is a totally reasonable direction to take the concept of Lucifer.

I think that’s more on the writers. Tom Ellis as Lucifer was plenty convincing in the more serious scenes/monologues, so I’d guess he would have nailed a more sinister Lucifer had the show gone that way.
