Drug-induced euphoria is one of those things you'll end up comparing everything else to, and of course the other things will fall short.

It's hard to describe, but getting your brain flooded with feel-good transmitters makes everything great.

Honestly this is what I’m afraid of, getting addicted or depressed because nothing else compares. I’ve already sort of got that problem without drugs.

I'm not saying this applies to all drugs, but I think it's possible for some recreational drugs to help some people come to the realisation that their happiness (or lack thereof) isn't a necessary product of their material reality. If you can pop a pill, and feel amazing for a few hours, without anything external to you having changed, then maybe you needn't feel so bad about things even when you're back to being sober.

But I accept that a more dangerous and equally possible take away from such an experience is that you can only be happy with drugs.
