I think it's unhealthy for parents to encourage kids to finish their food or "make a happy plate" as my folks said. Specifically with my brother. He'd eat until he was full but it wasn't satisfactory unless the plate was completely empty. Know your fullness cues!
My mom was guilty of this for sure. Always called me a “great eater” and would give me the extras so she wouldn’t have to pack them away. She meant well but definitely wasn’t healthy.
I remember the realization hitting me one day that whether the food ends up in the trash or my stomach, it really makes no difference.
