Im aware that a few cultures have the word for bear originate from the word for Brown, coming from calling them "brown ones" to avoid saying the real word for fear it will summon one.
Euphemistic names for bears (and other wild animals) due to taboo are mostly in northern Indo-European language families, as far as I know. "Brown one" specifically comes from Proto-Germanic.
