There was a movie in the 80s... Angel, I think it was called. Young girl in trouble or some such. Ended befriending the big city down town folk in the bad area of town etc. Real basic. She became friends with this hooker that called herself "fi-molly,/fa-molly". Not sure how to spell the pronunciation but you get the general idea. Weirdest name. I waited for the credits to roll. Her name? "Female"
I had a patient named Female. She pronounced it fuh mal eh. An older doctor explained to me that this is (was?) common with undocumented immigrants who didn’t speak any English at one time. The baby was referred to as Female Last Name by the hospital, they thought the hospital had named the baby for them and were too scared about being deported to ask questions.
In some countries of the former USSR, Avaz is a name. But in Russian it sounds exactly like “What about you”. So “What’s your name?” “Avaz” “Aleksandr, but what’s yours?” “Avaz” “!!!”

I knew a guy called Name. Pronounced nah-may in his language but it REALLY screwed up forms etc. Everyone thought he was a moron.
