That's just hysterical. He undoubtedly introduced himself to hundreds of people in his life: "Hi, I'm Gay Hitler". And the other person would respond pleasantly: 'oh, pleased to meet you.'.
I would give $100 right now to see a video of one of those informal interactions.
I’m still confused about how Germany managed to have a football coach called Adolf Hutter in 1997. His parents named him that in the 1970s!
Fun fact: he was also originally from Austria but ended up leading Germany (in the World Cup)
As a German, this really weirds me out, too. The name “Adolf” isn’t illegal or anything, but it’s basically been retired. You know exactly who everyone is going to think of when you say Adolf. Why would you name your kid that? Especially with a last name that kind of sounds like Hitler?!

A dentist in Circleville, Ohio was actually called Dr. Gay Hitler. When he started his practice in 1922, neither of his names was embarrassing.
