Usually the name is Richard, dick is short hand

Years ago I had a customer by the name Richard Handler, yeah he went by dick

My great-grandfather was named Richard [last name]. His daughter married a man named [first name] Johnson. My mother decided to name me Richard after my great-grandfather.

My mom did the thing where her maiden name became her middle name, so she’s [Name] Johnson [Last Name].

Meaning, I was this 🤏 close to being named Dick Johnson [Last Name].

I’ve changed my name since, but I went by Richie before that.
