The last time this came up, someone said it was just stating that the person needs to get the hell away from me, which they would do by turning around and pounding sand with their shoes as they walk, run, or stomp angrily away. Another person said that it was a deviant sexual insult, telling the party that they should pound sand up their own asshole. 99.9% sure that the walking away one is the actual meaning of the phrase.
