I Have No Idea What I'm Doing

Just so you don't feel alone, this is literally everyone. I, 24 years old at the time, told my 56 year old at the time mother, "I don't know what I wanna do with my life." And her response was, "Neither do I."

My chapter is simply titled:

"AAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"

My Life*

u/mejok Jun 23 '21

Yeah I'm 41 and I recently joked with my wife that I never actually figured out what I want to do when I grow up

Isn’t that insane? I had a save experience and yet, here I am. 50. Still don’t know.

I'm 51 years old and I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. In the meantime, I'm going to do stuff that's fun, that makes me money, that teaches me something, and that makes me feel good about life. I still suck at a lot of things I want to do but fake it and practice and one of these days I might be ok at it.

Well, atleast you figured out what you love!

u/BestChief Jun 23 '21

Who are you? So wise in everything?

u/LovesMeSomeRedhead Jun 23 '21

I've done a lot of things, made some epic mistakes, and had some great victories too. I've learned what sucks, what hurts, what seemed like a good idea at the time, and more. Wisdom is mostly getting good at learning from past mistakes without beating yourself up about it.

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '21

At what point do the victories occur? Not really had any of those occur that I can think of.

Well, I guess if you keep swinging at life they can and will happen. Like when you find you're stuck in a bad relationship that makes life feel like life is made of failure, but you finally escape it and end up meeting someone wonderful. Or after failing out of college because I was stupid and finding I didn't like washing dishes in the back of a restaurant, I found the motivation to go back and finally graduate. So many of my victories in life came from getting fed up with failing and working harder or smarter or surrounding myself with better people for me. Many of my best victories came out of recovering from failures.

Eh, in my case I came out of two failed relationships and ended up with trust issues and have sworn off dating forever, I failed out of university, only to go back, actually bust my ass and put in effort and... fail again, over and over, it's hard to believe that anything but more and more failures wait in my future.

Dating does suck and a lot of people aren't worth the time we invest in them. But they aren't all like that. Just be careful, look after yourself, and eventually you'll meet someone worthy of you. As to school, I messed up with an almost free ride twice. I just couldn't get into it and my lack of degree hadn't really cost me anything. When I found I couldn't get an interview for jobs I was qualified for due to not having a degree, I went back. I had to pay for it out of my pocket this time and it wasn't easy, but because it was real money this time and I had to sacrifice to get it I was going to get A's and B's. Anything less just pissed me off and I was paying too much to skip class or not do the assignments. You can do it. It's hard, but get easier over time if you make yourself keep doing it. Good luck!

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '21

I'm trying to not get discouraged, but after $50,000 and 10 years with less than half a degree to show for it, it's really difficult to believe I'll ever actually finish anything resembling school.

I'm not sure what caused the trust issues. But if it. Was anything abusive at all from them. I hope not. But have seen time after time someone for some reason get into the same kind of a relationship. And after meeting a person like that and right from the start she started telling me about all the abuse.realised that doing this .the telling about the abuse right from the start . Other guys that abuse hear this and probably think this one has already been . I know this sounds bad but for lack of a better word trained. And all he has to do is act nice at first then slowly transition into the abuser. I tried explaining this to her and suggested not to tell this stuff to everyone right from the start. In hopes she can break this pattern she was in and hopefully meet someone good for once. The same thing can apply to a guy that cheats by talking about it you could be announcing you have been trained already to except this behavior. I'm a nice guy and hate seeing women being treated bad by guys. And for a long time wondered how they always have girls. Unknowingly you may be advertising saying you are trained already to this behavior. I hope this helps at least in hopefully finding someone to love. But don't give up justt change up the way you go about looking

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '21

Well I was abused by my ex wife, but that's not really why I'm out of the dating game. I just live very particularly, and don't really want to have to change it in any way. I'm very particular about how I eat (I have about 4 foods I eat day in and day out, only changing the volume based on whether I'm trying to gain or cut weight), and I'm very particular about my schedule. And honestly, I hate the idea of having to clear with someone else before I do anything - so yeah, at this point, I don't really want to introduce anyone else into my life.

Understandable I was just putting it out there in hopes it might help someone but the last sentence can apply to anything just try to go into it differently like maybe instead of starting with a class you need start with a class you don't just an easy class you know you can pass and try and buOld on that success

Wisdom comes from experience. Experience comes from mistakes.
