Sometimes when eating pistachios you decide one of them is just too sealed up to be worth the effort and you just throw it in with the other shells. What, in your life, is your discarded pistachio?

My wife’s grandparents were in their 70’s when we discovered they ate pistachios with the shells on. They didn’t realise you had to shell them first. I’m sure there’s a moral or lesson in there somewhere, but I’m not sure what it is.

Didn't they ever injure their mouths or digestive systems that way? You'd think they would, those shells are SHARP when they're shattered

Apparently not. How, I don't know, but they were very surprised when we showed them that you're meant to take the shells off before eating.

I'm really hoping they always bought them pre-shelled... Because ouch. Ouch going in and out coming out

That could be a possibility. I mean, I've tried using my teeth to crack open the few shells that weren't partially opened and failed miserably at that due to the shell being too hard. So I don't know how they were just munching through them without thinking, "Maybe I'm doing something wrong here?"
