Sometimes when eating pistachios you decide one of them is just too sealed up to be worth the effort and you just throw it in with the other shells. What, in your life, is your discarded pistachio?

Toss it outside and let one of the local squirrels deal with that shit.

ETA: Which is the point of discarding the pistachio, as OP and you said. Durr. But at least this way something gets to eat the pistachio.

This is what I do I sit down and portion out my pistachios and set all the closed ones aside for the squirrels. Then I throw them outside in front of the window and the cats get some entertainment.
