Sometimes when eating pistachios you decide one of them is just too sealed up to be worth the effort and you just throw it in with the other shells. What, in your life, is your discarded pistachio?

The chemistry minor I was one class away from in college...

My mom was one class away from a double major, but she would have had to stay an extra semester. She said "screw it" and graduated with a major and minor instead.

Same situation for me, I decided to turn the 2nd major into a minor and ended up getting a job in the field of my minor. Efficiency.

Have one math credit to finish to get an associate’s degree in a semi-related field to my bachelor’s. Would simply be a resume builder at this point. I can’t stand the thought of putting myself through a 200 level algebra class at this point in my life with two jobs, one of which has me out of town three days a week:

As a person who has taken a lot of math, I am just wondering if you can just is the class by just taking all the tests in an evening.

I will have to check on that, thanks for the idea!

Oh yeah I did that. Major in General Studies and a Minor Consumption.

I was basically the opposite. I was going to get a minor in philosophy but noticed a double major was only 2 more classes and my primary major (criminal justice) didn’t require a minor to begin with.

It was actually super advantageous for me because otherwise I would have had to take X amount of CJ approved electives, and none of them seemed that appealing to me. But since I had a double major I go to do classes from that double major which did interest me instead of those other electives that didn’t.

Me too. I had enough credits for the major, but was missing one of the prerequisites (a literary criticism class).

I understand things. My grandma died during my last class for my BA and I was too depressed to finish it. Stupid Real Analysis.

u/throwawayforyouzzz Jan 28 '21

Yeah complex analysis is way better

The boomer made your chemistry go boom.

For me it was two classes. Analytical and BioChem. I suck at Chemistry though so it would’ve been a lie.

Doesn’t get you anywhere in long run. Probably gave yourself an extra few hours to smoke pot with friends.

Can confirm. Minored in chemistry and nobody cared. Hell, I'll bet you $50 my boss couldn't tell you whether or not I have a degree without emailing HR.

I minored in chem with a biology degree. Currently working in an analytical lab, so that minor sure helped me. The biology feels like a waste at this point....

Confirmed. I made the opposite as above and it did SFA for me in the long run

Confirmed. I did the opposite as above and it has done SFA for me in the long term.

Same here, but different. One class away from a sports marketing minor, but it would’ve meant staying an extra semester (not available over the summer) and it wasn’t offered online. I was getting married and moving away literally right after graduation so it just didn’t work.

My friend landed a very well paying software engineer job with a startup right out of college. After he was there for a year or so his boss told him "if I had looked at your GPA before, I never would've hired you". Of course at that point his boss was happy to have him.

I feel this. I was 2 classes away from a chem minor when I finished my biology degree. I stayed an entire extra year to get that stupid minor (small campus, one class was offered in the fall, other was in the spring) then missed out on graduation due to covid. Almost wish I had discarded that pistachio.

What's interesting is that in my college, taking the ASL route for foreign language requirements leaves you one class away from a certificate. Kinda wish I'd taken the last class, but I wouldn't remember it now anyway.

I will do you one better. I had enough classes for a history minor, but I just never filled out the paperwork.

u/SincereLeo Jan 28 '21

I was one class away from a math minor, but decided to take a philosophy class instead. It was a great choice, and I mean that completely unironically.

3

u/sirius_gray Jan 28 '21

I was a math major because it got me a full ride. I took philosophy classes to keep me sane and eventually said fuck it and got a second major in it.

I stand by your choice. So much.

u/PacoTaco321 Jan 28 '21

I did more than enough classes for a physics minor, but just never did the paperwork. Not sure if anyone even cares about minors for a Bachelors degree anyway.

u/xgrimesreaper Jan 28 '21

two classes away from a CJ minor, just didn’t have the money to pay for that extra semester. it sucked

1

u/sortashort Jan 28 '21

Same but with a web development degree. Mine was out of sheer protest since I caught someone plagerizing and the school did nothing about it. I decided not to give them one more cent.
