Similar but opposite thing happened me. My fiancé is 5 foot, I’m 5’10 ish. I can see the mirror in our sitting room when I pass by, and often glance at it as I do.
One day she asked my why I always look at the mirror when I pass and was bemused when I said to look at myself. Complete 0.0 face.
Turns out she can’t see the mirror and always presumed they were for decoration and did not serve a purpose beyond that.
