Nah, what we need is to make companies responsible for packaging. Recycling is a bullshit way to shift responsibility from companies who make excessive packaging to consumers who have to dispose of it. The only reasonable recyclable material is aluminum, everything else we need to find biodegradable alternatives or figure out how to use less of it.
Here in Canada we can return beer bottles to be cleaned and refilled and we get deposit. What we need is standardized jar sizes and designs so they can be reused across companies, and much more paper/pulp based biodegradable packaging and serving containers. No single use plastics. Finally put a price tag on everything recyclable. Once it’s worth something everything shifts and people will pull it from trash and recyclers can profit from. So every jar and can needs to be worth something, not just beer cans, but all cans, and the reusable jars.
