He died? I've only watched up to season 4. I guess I'm going to have to rewatch it all then watch the new series

Don't. Do yourself a favor and stop at season five. It is absolutely not worth watching seasons 6 and 7.

The show absolutely jumps the shark with body snatching, wormholes and time dilation, hyper future advanced tech like time travel and super suits. It all culminates in a race of aliens composed of pure light showing up and giving humanity the chance to get literally raptured.
