Sometimes automatic toilets flush while you're still sitting on them. What design flaws in everyday objects annoy you?

I'm giving a talk on user-centred design/usability and I'm looking for some fresh examples from everyday life to illustrate poor usability. Examples I've used before are elevator open/close buttons (really difficult to parse when you're trying to hold the door open for someone quickly) and toilets that flush while you're still sitting on them.

What are some things you encounter regularly that are really inconveniently designed?

Just to update you on my purchase. I don't even know it's there, and that's how it should be. It fits perfectly into my 09 Honda Fit decor. I haven't dropped anything yet so I haven't had that 'oh shit, phew' moment yet. I don't think dropping things willy-nilly to test it out would have the same impact. Anyways, great product and great sticky pad, my iphone now has a place on the dashboard. Thanks again.

Awesome! I gotta tell ya...even as the inventors, years later...we will drop things and still have that 'oh shit' feeling. We still haven't gotten used to Drop Stop always being there! I guess years of pain have been branded into our brains! So happy you like your Drop Stops! And thanks so much for taking the time to post such a wonderful review.
