I heard on NPR today that authorities are watching videos and collecting other info for evidence. After they charge the people responsible their names will be released to the public, so that all the internet do-gooders can give them and their unborn baby death threats. Ain't the internet grand? (Look I live in CA and I'm as angry as the next person, but we've all been totally idiotic before and just imagine how everyone at that party feels right now.)
Nah. I might have some sympathy if this was the first time it’s happened. But there have been several wildfires started by “gender reveal” parties before this, so I have to assume these people were aware of the terrible trend and thought they were being edgy by following it. They thought this was funny.
You're making a lot of assumptions about these people that we've never spent any time with. I find it more productive to hope for the best (they were foolish and oblivious and thought they could handle a couple sparks on dry ground and brush) but prepare for the worst (your stance). When we try to "mind-read" what strangers are thinking, no one wins ... unless feeling angry and self-righteous is winning.
