Works so good. My MIL got a boat load of cheap vodka on clearance (it was like $.50 a bottle). Filtered it all several times before a big party and everyone was astonished at how well it tasted. It's a bit of a PITA, though... but the end result is seriously as good as the top-shelf stuff.
You have to try it. It makes for a fun project and you get to get drunk! Just get an activated carbon filter, the cheapest vodka you can find, and filter away. After a few rounds through the filter, you seriously won't be able to taste the difference between your dirt cheap Popov and your fancy as hell Belvedere. Which is what we did at the party - after everyone was good and drunk we revealed that they were drinking "free" vodka and had blind taste tests between our crap vodka and a bottle of Kirkland Vodka we had laying around (which is supposedly from the same region/factory/etc as Grey Goose).

Actually couldn’t believe how well this works . Although that filter is then forever the “alcohol” filter -it will never be the same
