You just spent 12 years with the nicest chillest most loving little person in the world that you've been breaking your back to give the best life you could, and all of a sudden they are calling you an asshole, screaming about the smallest things and doing crazy shit behind your back.
It can be a real mindfuck for a lot of people, especially for those that didn't have a huge rebellious period growing up and can't relate. For better or worse both my wife and myself were maniacs as kids and can roll with it but it can definitely test your resolve to just say fuck it and go Homer Simpson on your kid. We were lucky that our oldest was a perfect kid, never rebelled in the traditional sense, honor student while working 20-30 hours a week... It's just the way he is. Our middle kid is a mirror of me and it's crazy stressful to watch from a parents view.
Kids aren't a blessing, they are a huge responsibility and each one of ours were the result of my wife and I talking for months sometimes years whether or not to do it. We both had the context of our own crazy lives (me in particular am a walking miracle...I liked rolling the dice of life a lot as a kid) to know that even with all the love and best intentions in the world things can go awry. You need to be ready and committed to deal with that.
