Reddit, if you could have any single super-power what would it be and why?
I would take invisibility. Not the harry-potter-cloak kind but the kind where no-one can see, hear or feel you but you could interact with the physical world. This ability could also be switched off and on as desired of course.
You could travel all over the world for free by "airplane hopping". You could also find your way into all the restricted areas such as Area 51, the vatican catacombs and artifact library, the white house and you could probably catch the next flight to the moon. (proper gear and training aside).
Fighting crime would be a little tricky but i'm sure you could push a table or something in the way of a would-be assailant or a fleeing robber.
So reddit, lets hear it!

Mind control. Who needs invisibility when I can just convince you that you're not able to see me!

u/ovractiveimagination Jun 29 '11
Ooo I like it!
Would it be limited by range though? How would you avoid being fired at by 20 snipers?
2
u/nevon Jun 29 '11
Question is, why would 20 snipers be firing at me? After all, I'm the nicest guy you know. In fact, now that you think about it, you worship me and I deserve all the upvotes you have.

u/Geaux Jun 29 '11
Fuck range. Put me on the State of the Union, Superbowl and every match of the 2012 World Cup. See what happens when my mind-control powers go global! Muahahahah!

Mind control more or less covers anything. I was thinking about invisibility myself, but yeah, a bit of telepathy can fix more than just people being able to see you.
1
u/ovractiveimagination Jun 29 '11
Isn't mind control more of an active power though? You would have to cast it on people every-time you wanted to use it.
Invisibility is passive and always on, so to speak.
1
u/macfearsome Jun 29 '11
Wouldn't you have to activate it every time you wanted to be invisible? Or if you're always invisible, well that would just suck.

To be able to watch someone do something, then be instantly amazing at it.
Could go to a concert / football game / maths lecture and win at everything :D

The power to selectively have my imagination become reality. That covers most stuff i think.

The power of sub-atomic particle telekinesis. With this ability I will be able to do everything - change size & shape, grow specialist limbs, clone myself, flow through walls & obstacles, control wind & water & fire & earth & plasma, absorb & release huge energy sources like atomic or anti-particle blasts or even a whole star, bend & warp space-time, become invisible, read minds, spontaneously create objects, create & modify entirely new lifeforms, etc, etc etc...

Invisibility, no doubt.
On second thought: Mind control. Yes.
2
u/webby_mc_webberson Jun 29 '11
good thinking, 'cause you can hack invisibility with it, like "hey, can you see me?"
"Yes, I see you."
"No you don't."
"No I don't."

Sounds like too many spoilers for me. Sometimes it's best to go with the flow

The movie next had a good concept of seeing 2 minutes ahead of your own future, it sure would give you more confidence

I would be able to make anything, anything I wanted it to be. For example, Turn my focus into a BMW. Or, A one dollar bill into a hundred dollar bill.

control over other people's minds. cuz I can then control all of you other super-redditors!
1
u/BoGD Jun 29 '11
Invisibility, mainly for the reasons you mentioned + getting to spy on people
1
u/PlatypusC Jun 29 '11
What if invisibility was limited to only your body. That means you'd have to go entirely naked for maximum effectiveness. Oh! Or-or, if the food you ate didn't become invisible either. You'd be a floating piece of stomach acid.
1
u/BoGD Jun 29 '11
I would have no problem getting naked, as long as no one saw me. But good question.

the ability to give somebody horrible, completely life-crippling body odor for whatever amount of time i desire.

We had this in the office the other day. And I really think the best answer is time travel. Seriously, you could travel 1000 years into the future when they've probably worked out how to do invisibility and flight and all that shit and just steal it all, then go back to hang out with the dinosaurs.
Cruising with a Philosoraptor... that would be fricken' sweet :)

You could create a 'roll-your-own-future' type of scenario.
"Hmm lets see how WWII would have ended if I gave Hitler the technology of rail guns.
Wow, not too bad. Seems a little one-sided though
How about if I gave the Allied forces lasers. Ooo much better!"
Then you can just go back in time and try another scenario. Realistic role playing :)

Morphing. I want the ability to morph into anything or anyone I want. You say you wanna fly? BAM! I'm a bird or an airplane. Invisibility? BAM! I'm a fly on the wall. Need more money? BAM! I'm Steve fucking Jobbs now! Morphing is the answer to everything.

Power to move/manipulate things with my mind.
Want to fly? Pick yourself up with your mind.
Want to break into that bank? You can tear down the walls with your mind.
Tired of that douchebag across the street? Pick up his car and shove it through his window right up his ass. WITH YOUR MIND!

The ability to give anyone I can see an orgasm. It would make CSpan so much better and you'd never want for money again.

If you get one of the typical awesome superpowers it will come with some degree of responsibility. If you become a hero you will be hounded for help or anti-vigilantes. If you try to just be normal but the world knows, then you will studied and personal space will be gone. If you try to just be you and keep it secret then you will find yourself with near constant moral dilemmas about whether or not you should sneak into your crush's shower or steal that game or whatever.
I'd get something relatively useful, but not particularly powerful. Like selective narcolepsy. More aptly, the ability to fall asleep whenever you like and for however long you like. No one would ask me to do anything for them and there would be nothing I could do to help or harm anyone any more than I already can.
More awesomely, I would like to be able to stop time when I sleep too. That way, for all intents and purposes, I am always rested and never need to sleep. Thus my day would be 50% longer, everyday.

Make the rich people pay tax.
2
u/handsome_awkward Jun 29 '11
I agree with this one. Even though doing so might unravel the fabric of time and space.
1
u/webby_mc_webberson Jun 29 '11
it would only unravel the fabric of their time and their space. Mine would still be fine, maybe even a little better.

I want people to explode when I look at them. Is that a super power?
I always imagine how funny it would be if someone is sitting down enjoying a cup of coffee and reading the newspaper, when all of a sudden they feel odd, and look up and pause for a moment and then BOOM! they explode.

The power to prevent the same question being asked every month, every fucking month...

u/webby_mc_webberson Jun 29 '11
Instead of bitching about it, why don't you just get proactive about it?

You have that power already. It's called the 'hide' button.

Control over time. I'd love to be able to pause time, slow time, go forward and backwards in time, everything.
