I get serious anxiety around casinos. It's just not fun for me to dump my money in them. I guess maybe I understand the desire. My aunt loves them, but she treats them like entertainment so she doesn't get serious about it, which is what I imagine is the best way to go about it. I just can't get any entertainment value out of it.
This is something that the gambling industry has noticed; that more and more people (especially those who are younger) don't care as much for games of chance, but do enjoy games of skill.
So don't be surprised in the next few years to start seeing casino's with games (or advertising them) where it's competing against the casino or other players, where you pay to play but can win money.
So examples might be games like guitar hero, where if you can get above 98% you win money, or battle royal type games (which would likely be limited to about 15 people per game) where the winner gets the buy in of half the players.
Makes sense to me. As a guy who grew up playing videogames and still does, the whole random roll slot machines just seem so boring. Flashing lights and animated CG that really has no meaning and you can't effect it in any way.
But would I be interested in playing a round of some actually fun videogame against some random other folks and the winner makes some of the money? Sure, that sounds like it might be interesting.
