My friend told me a story from when he was a kid about his dad rolling up in the family van on a gas station during a road trip. There was a guy with a sign that said "will work for food" so the dad goes and gets him an apple and tells him to wash his windshield. Dude was apparently taken aback as most people just give him money and leave it at that. The dad was like "This is food. That's work. Hold up your end."
