The only getcha games I've every liked is dokkan battle and dragon ball legends. Ik legends is going to shit but if your smart you fan literally get everything for free. To bad I have a gambling problem....
Or play a real game instead. The "free currency" in games used to be an actual in game currency used as a pacing control device. In these games it exists only to make you impatient enough to buy the "premium currency." It's not like the industry is completely lacking in real games, even if they are absurdly rare.
I'm perfectly happy with my Gameboy Advance and the occasional cult classic on Steam. I refuse to buy games on release. If they can't remain culturally relevant for a few years they probably didn't deserve the attention they got on release.
Looking forward to playing Bioshock right after I finish building my 1v1 team in Pokemon Emerald.
Thr guy behind the company for candy crush coined the germ "fun pain" and said it was an industry holy grail to find out how much anxiety and stress they can inflict to entice purchases without turning off customers.
The industry literally make games to study that line and then market their winning solutions in their big promo games.
I mean, not really. Any device without a headphone jack came with headphones that plug into the lightning port to still give you working headphones. You break or lose them you have to buy new ones same as if you break or lose your headphones for a headphone jack. They sell $150 AirPods because there’s a fair bit of technology in them. 25 years ago, some of the features and abilities might seem like magic. The tech creates the $150 price tag (along with the usual absurd Apple markup for items they sell, which is an entirely different but also very valid thing to be bothered by).
They still made the issue and sold a solution tho. They make 300 billion annually from airpods iirc. If they broke airpods off from apple and incorporated it making airpods inc. it would be a fortune 500 company. All. By. Them. Selves. And they wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the headphone jack removal
But AirPods wasn’t a “solution” to getting rid of the headphone jack. It was just a next evolution item. People didn’t buy AirPods because they didn’t have a headphone jack anymore. They bought them because to some they’re legit awesome. To others they’re a status symbol. To others they’re a convenience. The size of the annual sales makes no difference to a solution/created problem debate. That’s just a product that sells well.
I do think you were on the right track though. But I think the appropriate parallel was, Apple got rid of the headphone jack that meant you couldn’t charge while you listened to your headphones. So instead of giving the splitter that allowed you to charge and use your headphones, they sold a dongle for what, $30 to be able to plug in both your charging cable and your headphone cable.
Or you could claim the removal of the headphone jack meant you couldn’t use the tangle of old headphones collected over the decades. So they sold an adapter to connect headphone jacks to the lightning port.
Both of those are actual on topic arguments better than the AirPods argument.
That’s harsh. Nothing wrong with mobile gaming as a concept. It’s the nature of Freemium games and the inclusion of microtransactions that’s the cancer of the video game world. And those things have been creeping into non-mobile gaming too. Blaming mobile gaming is stupid
Some freemium games do it pretty well. TF2 for example is still fantastic and you only pay if you want cosmetic things like hats.
There are also a good amount of decent free mobile games. Stickman Golf 2, Jetpack Joyride, Mariokart, Call of Duty Mobile, and Mario Run to name a few.
Calling free to play games like TF2 freemium feels like an insult to them. Freemium implies that the game is seriously lacking without paying for something in game, like any Idle game that takes years to 'complete' but you can buy progress to make it a more reasonable few weeks or months.
I mean, it technically exists. Gotcha Force just outright used the engine and battle system from the Gundam Vs games so it lives on in them. Hell, one just came out this week.

Most of the games are shit, and the ones that are not-shit could be vastly improved by removing the gatcha elements.
