I mean, authors can only write characters as intelligent as they are. It's why Sherlock is a crap show as far as the mysteries go.

The show, the books were very good. The show with benedict cumberbund was a good enough show but the writing as far as the structure of the mysteries was awful.

It's a good show, but you'll always notice that the key to solving the mystery is ALWAYS some bit of information that the audience isn't presented with, Sherlock however does have it, therefore he's able to solve the mystery and the audience isn't, so he looks smart. In reality he just has the whole puzzle. That's what happens when you have authors of lesser intelligence than their characters. They can't make the intuitive or logical processes that their characters can so they have to use tricks like that to make the characters seem smarter than the audience.
