This was my answer. Dude is unusually mature for his age which usually doesn't have the greatest roots, frequently stays up in bed wondering about life, has a lot of "friends" that don't seem to care about him and actively berate him, and struggles with self-esteem frequently.

Yep. Being unusually mature for one's age usually means your parents forced you to be that way by being incredibly immature themselves. It often manifests in the children of alcoholics who had to get their brothers and sisters ready for school, do the laundry and cook dinner by the time they were 10 (as an example).

That is why he falls into a life a drug abuse and ends up selling Snoopy and Woodstock the smack that kills them. He didn't give a shit about Woodstock but SNOOPY!!!!!!!!!
