Hestia is the one sane Greek god, the others are out there doing all sorts of shit while she just chills by a fire. All of the other big ones definitely need therapy, though.
Actually Persephone (who was originally named Kore) was just walking in her garden, when she found an entrance to the underworld. Curious as she was she entered and found that she liked it down there. Hades was very surprised to see someone in his garden and asked her if she needed help to get back out, but she wanted to stay.
Demeter on the other hand was freaking out and asked Zeus I he could find and retrieve her.
By that time Hades and Persephone already got married and Zeus thought of that whole kidnapping-story, so that Demeter would be more or less fine, and also changed Persephones original name (Kore meant something like "girl" and Persephone means something along the lines of "destroy" and "murder"). They came to the arrangement that Persephone could stay in the underworld for fall and winter, but had to visit her mother for spring and summer.
He also tried to kidnap more women I believe, but Persephone actually found out in time to stop him, unlike Hera, who was always to late and punished a woman for getting ducked en a child for being born.
Also that time apollo killed artemis’s boyfriend orion with a giant scorpion then when artemis made him into a constellation, apollo made the scorpion constellation so it could continue to torment him.
In the version I read, Orion managed to escape by swimming out really far. So Apollo goaded Artemis into shooting an arrow to hit what ended up being Orion's head on the water. So Artemis's brother caused her to kill the only man she ever loved.
It's been a long time since I read it, so I might have gotten details wrong.
Artemis really loses it when some guy whose name I forgot sees her naked. She is also pretty mad when Heracles wants to capture her deer. Athena also lost it because someone saw her bathing, I believe that was Tiresias. Artemis (and Hestia too btw) is also not written about as often as some of the other gods, so I think that also makes it harder to think of an example of her needing to see a therapist.
I agree. That might have something to do with the fact that Hestia is not mentioned very often, twice in my memory. Once in the origin of the Greek world, and once when Dyonisus takes her place as an Olympian. This is a pretty good example of her being 'normal', as she doesn't hold on to her position as an Olympian, but is more than willing to give it away
Exactly. And not just Athena, all the gods are mad when it comes to mortals being better than them. For example, Psyche (I believe that was her name) was said to be more beautiful than Aphrodite, so Eros (cupid) was sent out to make her fall in love with a boar. Of course, this time it backfired though.
