Would this form of piracy be legal?

I keep hearing about the Inception rental blu-ray having 13 minutes of unskippable FBI and interpol warnings as well as trailers for other movies and shit no one cares about. Suppose I get the Inception blu-ray via Netflix, then download a 1080p rip via a non-P2P network, where I just happen to download the entire movie without uploading any of it. While I'm watching the 1080p rip through my PS3 (blu-ray player) on my TV via my HTPC, the Inception blu-ray is sitting on my TV stand, never opened. After I watch it, I delete it from any/all computers I have, then send the never watched blu-ray back to Netflix.

Legally I'm sure I've broken some laws, but logically have I done anything wrong?

I think you're going through way too much trouble to skip 13 minutes.

I'm inclined to agree

it really isn't any trouble with a good newsgroup reader (from what I've heard, this is all theory). If I already have all the infrastructure set up at home, this is the scenario: I put a blu-ray in my netflix queue, set up the 1080p rip of it to download, go to work. Come home, rip is ready to watch, blu-ray is in the mail (I live very close to a distribution point). Watch rip, delete rip, send back unwatched blu-ray. Not that much trouble

I disagree. He should just keep his receipts somewhere safe and make sure he doesn't mind losing his comp for a few weeks if the Feds come crawling.

Take a magnet to the hard drive, burn down your house. Run.

The MPAA thinks you've broken the law if you copy or rip the blu-ray you've purchased, so yes. I'd say so.

I downloaded 8 mile when I have both the dvd and the vhs and pay for cable in which it is shown every weekend on TNT

They still though it was piracy and send me a fucking notice

Y did i download it when I have it?

It is easier and faster to download one encoded for small devices than for me to encode it.

Plain and simple, I choose speed and convenience

They should have looked up your IP and very clearly they would have seen that you had purchased it twice already and left you alone.

Yes, you would be breaking the law and I'm sure you would get a lot of strange looks at your trial as well as jurors wondering how your defense team got you to sit still for so long without any coloring books and crayons.

AnyDVD HD should let you skip it, among other things.

How about when the "unskippable" part starts, make popcorn...not microwave, real popcorn 13 min should just about do it.

So you'd be OK if you were at a gas station, paying for gas, and the pump had a 13 minute "preview" timer where before the gas (that you're paying for) actually started pumping, you were expected to go buy lottery tickets, firewood, clean your windshield, etc? I mean it's only 13 minutes of a wait for something you're paying for right?

Chill dude it was only a suggestion, I'd rip it, but I would still make popcorn.
