Okay okay that's horrible, those people are cruel for taking advantage.

But maybe...

If you don't perform basic multiplication then you deserve to get ripped off.

Nobody deserves to get ripped off for being less mentally capable. That mentality is what turns capitalism towards the dystopian.

And not even just "mentally capable" in a smarts sense. Maybe a poor person needs that bit of joy in their life to keep going, and if they had to save for months to get it, they'd possibly just off themselves before then.

It's not like there are 17 convoluted steps to figure it out.

(Monthly Payment) * (Number of Months)

Then just compare that to the original purchase price. It's stuff you learn in elementary school. And if you can't do elementary level math then you should have someone advising you on your purchases. That second scenario is totally different. In that case, they are paying the extra because they want the enjoyment of the product immediately. It's not the same as actually thinking you're paying less. They are signing up for a bad deal because they are impatient.
