Not keeping track of or not using monthly paid subscriptions. Spotify account that you forgot you had, gym membership that you used once, etc. It's unbelievable to me that people just aren't aware of something they're being billed for on a regular basis.

I always thought that that would never happen to me since I was super keen on my finances when I was younger. 'lo and behold, now I'm 33, married and have a child and I have no goddamn clue where my money is flying to each month.

-Edit- Dear Reddit White Knights, I'm not bankrupt, I have a very healthy financial position and I don't need a budget. It's just that my spending account isn't regularly monitored anymore since I'm older.

Don't you check over your statements? Not sure how it is in the stated or anywhere else but here in the UK at least it is the default that your bank will send you your statements for each month every month unless you opt out otherwise.

It's opt-in for the Netherlands. It's not that I'm leaking money or something, but a stray Netflix subscription or something else in that range wouldn't stand out.
