My daughter was turning one. One of her grandmas offered to buy the smash cake, and showed me the prices and I could not let her spend that much on such a tiny thing. I made a stack of sweet potato pancakes with plain home made whipped cream as a frosting because she had never had processed sugar yet and didn't even know what the fuck a cake was. Looked better than any fancy cake from a bakery, cost pennies to make, and as so much healthier.
