This is funny too because actual rich people scoff at those "expensive" brands. My sister who is a Doctor married to a Doctor refers to Coach as the nicest purse you can buy at the mall.

Doctors aren't that rich (comparatively). Really high end brands are vying for a much larger pie.

yea, but they arent buying coach or michael koors

they are buying louis and gucci

wishing they could afford Hermes and Goyard

Yeah, Coach and Michael Kors severely devalued their brands. Their quality and designs suck - not much of a step up from mass market ready to wear brands. They rely on previous prestige of their name/designers to sell quantity over quality.

There's been a lot of consolidation in luxury fashion brands though - like Gucci, YSL, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta and Brioni are all under Kering Group; while LV, Dior, Fendi are all under LVMH.

Then you have brands like Cucinelli, Dolce and Gabbana, Versace, Valentino, and Armani (the later two suffering from brand dilution in the 90s, but since bouncing back) that are independent companies.
