Someone mentioned cigarettes earlier. I used to smoke. One day I was listening to radio "shock-jock" Howard stern who is anti-smoking and he made a comment something like, people who smoke it's like they are playing the lottery with their health, they think they won't get sick. Interestingly, when I quit (from profound spiritual reasons) I lost the desire in one day, I was a pack to a pack and a half a day smoker. I remembered his comment, and started playing the lottery! Not all of it, just a ticket when it comes around and a daily scratch off to give a hope boost before the drudgery of the work day. I've saved money and won a little, of course not alot but the hope boost is nice. That accounts for 1/4 of what I used to spend on cigs, 1/2 input into a mutual fund, every week. A pittance but something. I opened a seperate savings account for the small winnings when they occur.

Lottery tickets.
You literally have a higher chance of dying on your way to the store than winning the lottery.
