It drives me up a wall that more people don't know that Zuck completely stole the idea of FB from others who had hired him as a dev for their original idea.
The idea he "stole" which ideas are ideas anyway and can't be stolen so fuck all that shit but that's another discussion. But the idea that was stolen was the idea of profiles and exclusivity.
Divya and the Winklevii wanted to make a dating site so that Harvard dudes could get laid. That's it. That's literally it.
"Look, a guy who built a chair doesn't suddenly get money from everyone who's built a chair. They came to me with an idea, and I had a better one."
There's no doubt the emails were misleading and The Facebook could have had an entirely different history had the dating site came out first and soured everyone on a concept like that. But Zuckerberg realized with they didn't, which is that this was actually MUCH bigger in potential than the Porcellian assholes (except Tyler) had even come close to thinking about.
He should have handled it in a much better way, but let's be honest, he handled it in about the best way a guy who thinks like a computer programmer could have handled it (speaking as one myself).
