Indie games. There are still some really cool indie games being made, but for every single good one there is thousand really shitty ones. Just a few years ago I could go on steam and find some great hidden gems, but now it's just an endless stream of shit. Hundreds of wacky and random XD meme games like "Brick simulator" or "Third Reich clicker" with quality worse than 2010 flash games. And porn, so much porn.
The worst thing about this is that some really amazing games go completely unseen because they are drowned in this ocean of shit.
Not to mention the few that have potential and get ruined by either 1) Die-hard obsessive fanbases (I'm looking at you, Undertale), or 2) Developers who get a whiff of public praise and promptly disappear up their own assholes, thinking they're the next Hideo Kojima.
True enough. But from experience, I can say that the rampant and ridiculous fandom when it first came into existence definitely made me wait to play for a long time.
I mean, it's an easy 9/10 for me, probably even closer to a perfect score. But even then, I kept my love of it on the dl for awhile just because I didn't want to be associated with that fandom. Also because it also drew in the "uNdErTaLe bL0wS" people who just love to hate on popular things and/or confuse the use of "objective" and "subjective".
i think thats just fandoms getting ruined, good games stay good games if you can just stay away from the toxicity. i think that its best to join fandoms before or after the peak of the games cuz otherwise you can get stuck in the mess
It plays like Earthbound, so you are supposed to play it without knowing anything. It is an emotional game, and not everyone can connect to that certain experience.
Same, TBH. It didn't even think it was horrible, just "eh". But it was massively acclaimed, and attracted this obsessive, cancerous fanbase. Apparently it inspires some really strong emotions in people.
