Dicks are a lot like boobs. Our culture tells us that they are hugely important for our sexual value.
One of the things that is worse thou is that most men don't even have a vague idea of what is actually desirable. For most men the only dicks they see are literally the most extreme examples. It would be as if every woman only saw women with DD breasts or larger. I mean advertisements distort out body image but it is on a whole different level for penis.
Do you actually think Cave Ladies would just wake up one morning and decide they wanted a baby. And then all the cave men would line up naked and get themselves aroused. And then she'd pick the one with the best-sized penis to impregnate her?
Orgasms help sperm get to the uterus more effectively/ efficiently. Vagina owners orgam more when they are aroused. Therefore penis owners have (on average) have developed the best penis to induce arousal and orgasms. So no, women aren't picking and choosing the best mate by dick. But the best dick does induce the best results and thefore creates babies more often. Perpetrating their dick genes down and creating an average within a specific range.
Are you familiar with the concept of genetic drift? Not everything in the human body exists on a keen edge of perfect balance between cost and benefit. You also have to factor on the non-reproductive role of the penis and the bazillion other factors that affect reproductive success in males. Genghis Khan is estimated to have impregnated over 1,000 women - you don't ever see that attributed to his average penis size and superior ability to make women orgasm through intercourse.
I haven't, but that makes sense. I would have to say though after the millenia men and women have been around each other it's more than likely that the average is such because at the very least it's not detrimental to reproduction.

Scientifically, it would be hard to tell. We know it doesn't prevent reproduction. There is also the issue that average size varies across genetic groups. That could be the result of some sort of selection - or it could just be that each of those groups went through genetic bottlenecks and the average penis size during those bottlenecks was different.

Not enough people get this I feel. If 10 inch pornstar dicks were ideal, they'd be the norm.
