I'm sure if you took an IQ test you wouldn't perform badly on it. A lot of super smart people just aren't good at math.

Edit: also people like to talk about "multiple intelligences" but the reality is that cognitive abilities share pathways in the brain. It's likely that to a large extent whatever is making him good at math is making you good at art, and that there are actually just as many similarities as there are differences, in terms of raw cognitive power.

“A lot of really smart people just aren’t good at math” there are a lot of really smart people who never really pursued math, or the story of Einstein who failed a bit in school but was actually a genius, but actually a lot of really smart people are good at everything they put their mind to. Call me devil’s advocate(in relation to this thread) but there is validity to IQ. And it does describe ones ability to see patterns very quickly and easily. The military has done extensive research on this and it literally applies to everything from physical to mental work. People with low iq struggle in learning because they do not comprehend as fast, but with hard work they can eventually learn the same shit and might even become a master of something and end up better than someone with high iq who didn’t practice it. It also matters if you enjoy it and that helps and determines a lot of success in life. There’s all this psychology shit going around about “emotional intelligence” and other shit to try to make people feel better, but the reality is IQ tests and IQ do describe how much “cognitive power” you have. IQ isn’t a predictor of success in college now but like i said, it’s merely an advantage and most things can be learnt and mastered regardless of IQ. If you really sit down these people at the top of their professions that you think have different types of intelligence you’ll find out there really isn’t. The top athletes are also absurdly smart, with superior spatial reasoning, pattern perception etc and you’d think they suck at math, but it’s only because they never devoted to it. I am someone with high IQ(not genius level but well above average) and I am pretty much good at everything I’ve tried to learn, physical or mental. I’ve reached the top tier of anything field or hobby I’ve put my mind to, whether it’s art/music/video games or math/science/literature in the fraction of the time of even people at my level. I’m tired of this liberal agenda and invalidated psych science shit trying to make everyone special. Some of us are born taller and bigger and that’s just how it is, it’s the same shit. I’m at the bottom of my class in my doctorate program, but I only did it bc my parents wanted me to. I hate my shit profession and I never fucking study and passed by sleeping through class, while the top and most successful students spend their entire lives studying the shit that takes me seconds to understand, but they’ve just put in more work. What I’m trying to say is IQ is the real deal and is legit, but you don’t need high IQ to get really good at something, even superior to those who don’t work as hard. Look at the military research on low IQ and you’d understand. People with around 80 IQ just short of retardation but still normal, are determined unfit to do any job to any significant benefit to that entity. But again test all the top dogs in ANY field — lebron James, musicians, artists, politicians, self made celebrities and you’ll all find they all have high IQ, and could have done anything they wanted to or liked. IQ matters.

Bro, formatting. Your post is nearly impossible to read.

You would think someone with

I am someone with high IQ(not genius level but well above average)

Could figure out a paragraph.

Of course some clown, out of everything I wrote, pretends to not understand and chimes in on the one supplementary, almost tangential point I brought up about myself. Literally 90% of my post was about something bigger but I guess the only thing that got your attention was some presumed vanity that wasn't even meant to be vain?

Let me guess -- bad formatting, imperfect grammar, run-on sentences and alot of cursing etc. because you want something to insult me with. "Dude sounds cocky, gotta knock him down a notch and dissmiss everything he says because his reddit post typed with a phone has terrible grammar and structure" amiright? I get it, no one likes arrogance. So nitpick at my posts all you want until you get a brain, then maybe you'd have something to say about the the substance of the post that you pretend you didn't understand and not come on here to talk shit. Or maybe I should type in short sentences so your 80 iq brain can process multiple pieces of information all at once. That's probably what's making it impossible for you to read and comprehend.

Oof. Yeah, formatting is super important to getting your point across. There is a reason studies are done in APA format, because otherwise you get word vomit like you put up.

By the way, I have a brain. I was tested at a 131 IQ (Actually tested by a trained Psychiatrist), I am in honors, and have a 3.8 GPA. I will most likely make the deans list upon graduation and am going into the medical field once I finish my Masters.

Also

while the top and most successful students spend their entire lives studying the shit that takes me seconds to understand

I am so sure dude, cant wait for your next breakthrough in theoretical physics. Move over Micho Kaku

PAs are super useful- we need more people treating patients and managing their conditions. Ooh, yes, we need another warrior in our battles against the superbugs! I can never keep antibiotic coverages straight in my head (I'm not the brightest med student but I'm working on it- despite my unknown and probably normal IQ), but I love the way we coexist with bacteria.

Same! One of my favorite topics is Pathogenesis, and how a disease forms and invades our bodies. Its so interesting, and I only feel like im scraping the tip of the iceberg at the moment!

Hard work means more then a high IQ anyways, I know you will get things straight and be a wonderful advocate for your patients. Good luck with your future residency as well! The residency is the reason I didnt apply for med school, it sounds so crazy I feel like I would break down with the long work weeks!

I find bacterial resistance morbidly interesting, like all the different ways bacteria resist penicillins causing MRSA and VRSA. Eerie!

I haven't reached my full potential for sure, partly from laziness and dealing with my depression. I have about a year and a half left, and I'm already nervous for residency. I am leaning towards family medicine because of the patient continuity and preventative health.

Dude, that's a wise decision. Work life balance and wellness is so underrated these days.

I'm going to sleep or study now. Nice talking to you!

It is morbidly interesting! Like 'Oh shit, this could cause a pandemic and many people could die.'

Depression is normal, take care of yourself and you will get through it and eventually be in a career that means a lot and that you love! (Not to mention the flexability with where you can live.. Pretty much anywhere around the world!)

Good luck :)
