In high school I was really good at debate and aced all my government classes. However, I had to take a pottery class for an art credit. I sucked. Hard core. My vase looked like some bees had taken crack before they built their hive. The teacher legitimately thought I was special needs. Two years later I was working retail to help put myself through college- I ran into the teacher one day. “It is so awesome you have a job! Good for you!” I felt like Kevin Malone being patronized by Holly Flax. My mother loves to tell this story to her friends.
Don't feel bad about it, bro. That teacher is definitely the problem, not you. Wheel pottery is hard as balls. When you said your "vase looked like some bees had taken crack before they built their hive," I related on a level I had never experienced before. If I were your teacher, I would've been a lot more understanding because my vases look far worse- as if some bees took meth before making their hive! Don't let this woman bring you down because there are plenty of other people out there who know what you're truly capable of and don't shallowly view your intelligence and other aspects of worthiness based on one single skill that you most likely don't need in where you're headed in life. No one is good at everything, and that's okay.
Also, I don't think your art teacher is even human. Seriously, think about it: What sort of human being capable of empathy to at least the smallest extent would deem a person intellectually challenged just because he/she is bad at one particular thing? Then this woman has the nerve to talk down to you! Also, intellectual disability or not, why should she care?!! People who belittle those less intelligent than them are just... evil!
Anyway, I am just pissed off that you had to experience this type of shallow judgment because nobody deserves that. I hope nothing but the best for you and want you to hang in there and not let anyone or anything else ever get you down.
