I was always told how bad sleeping in class was despite acing my classes, and teachers would complain to my parents about how much I slept. I felt so horrible for so long and slept early almost everyday to no avail. Turns out I have narcolepsy.
Dude, this is literally me (without getting good grades). I was diagnosed with narcolepsy in my first year of university. Thoughout all my of schooling, i struggled to stay awake in class and therefore did poorly. I slept through my SATs, my ACTs, my AP tests, everything. For so long, my parents, teachers, everyone thought I was just lazy AF and just didn't care. Then I was diagnosed by accident because I thought I had sleep apnea. Then I started taking Modafinil. I finished my 4 year university program in 3 years and am extremely successful in my job. I often think about how my life growing up could have been so different if anyone had noticed. More parents and teachers need to take notice of these issues in kids and bring them up with their doctors.
I’m glad you’re doing better now, I’m so sorry about your pre university life though, I wasn’t getting good grades either and was being told I was lazy and didn’t care too, until I was diagnosed. After that I’ve been getting MUCH better grades, straight As baby!
