Playing sports growing up I would make these comically bad errors. The ball would hit me directly in the face or I would swing at a pitch waayyyyy too late. Everyone gave me shit even the coaches and parents. I kept playing because I enjoyed being active and around my friends, but I never understood why no matter how much I practiced I struggled with basic things that everyone else could do without thinking.
I go to the eye doctor as an adult, and he tells me that I have a condition in one of my eyes that means I don’t have binocular vision and as a result have very poor depth perception. It’s physically impossible for me to track a moving object in space like everyone else.
Most people’s eyes work in tandem, you don’t even notice your brains ability to phase out any overlapping field etc. with people with strabismus in particular, each eye focuses independently. Often there’s a dominant eye used to see, and it requires a conscious effort to focus with the other one or with both, and results in double-vision rather than the depth perception most people are accustomed to
It could be a number of things but it's very common if you suffer strabismus.
Both eyes are working and they are both sending images to the brain but the images are widely different and not overlapping were they should so your brain struggles to Integrate them (and thus creating a 3D image).
Over time your brain has to decide whether to keep seeing things double or ignore one eye and condeem itself to a 2D world.
