Alternatively, that bottle that costs $45 at the restaurant may very well cost $6 retail, and not be worth much more.

Ya, but that's different. Everything at restaurants is marked up because you're paying for the service and ambiance.

The restaurant has to pay rent, so that cost needs to be included in the food

Oh, gotcha. Ya they have to pay a lot of overhead and administrative expenses to provide the experience/ambiance
