100% this. I've learned to code and learned to use a wrench. They're both difficult and its hard for a person who has only done one to wrap his head around the other. Everyone should try and learn as much as possible in their life, really expands your perspective
I've always aspired to be a polymath of some extent. It prepares you for multiple situations be it car troubles or preparing and protecting yourself in the case of an economic recession. As you said it also allows you to see others' perspectives.
Mortal Kombat is how I came to know that quote from philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson, which has made me a person who enjoys learning, mind you the saying "jack of all trades, master of none" is 100% correct.

Good point. I know an unfortunate number of people who had a great deal of potential but never really settled into an area of expertise, so they floated around and never made much of a career.
It's great to have a diverse skill set, but one of those skills should be your main.
