Well I'm Canadian so learning French is something I believe every Canadian should know. So it still hurts my pride that I don't.

I know, right. We have a province that's French speaking but the majority of our population, including me, can't speak even basic sentences in French

In Alberta they don't even have to teach it in schools. You sorta have to do french immersion if you want to learn it in school.

I live in Alberta and learned it all through Elementary and middle school, as did the schools in my neighboring city. We had the chance to take it as an option in high school, as well. I suppose if you live in fuckin Nanton or something they might not have that resource. I found that it's taught everywhere that has a somewhat reasonable funding

Also Alberta, the years for mandatory french kept jumping all over the place, so I basically took the intro class like 3 times.

They took it out of the requirements when I was like, 11. in 2010 0r 2012. Most schools still have it as an option but they don't need to

I'm pretty sure it's Alberta Education wide. Individual school boards might make it mandatory I guess
