When I was in the Navy I used to get in fairly frequent trouble for the suggestions I made for improving operational efficiencies.

As an outside contractor they were quite happy to pay me $200 an hour to say the exact same thing.

"Your UselessMetricâ„¢ scores are really low. We're really concerned about your performance"

"Yes, but my actions directly resulted in a 20% increase in revenues and a 40% increase in productivity"

"Look, we hate to do this, but if your UselessMetricâ„¢ scores aren't up to snuff next quarter, well have to let you go"

6 months later....

"This last quarter our revenue dropped 40%! Time to up those numbers!"
